October 31, 2006

I actually HAVE been knitting! 🙂  I went to The Knit Shop in Eugene, Oregon a few weeks ago for some new dpn’s since mine broke (we all remember THAT episode) and the shop owner talked me in to trying (again) socks on two circs.  Now, while I do admit that when I first began socks, I loved that method, I now have to say that I much prefer using dpn’s for my sockies.  They just seem to look better, I think.  Anyway, I spent a skillion dollars on two sets of addi’s *drool* and some new opal self striping yarn for the socks I still need to get to my  aunt for her now already past birthday.  She’s ok with them being late.  I told her she can have them at Thanksgiving 🙂  I like knitting with Opal.  This colorway is Opal Petticoat 1297.  Yellow, white green and blue.  Not my choice of colors, but my aunt liked it, and since they’re for her, well… can’t beat that I guess 🙂  I also gave up on the 2 circs again.  It just wasn’t the right fit for me.  Not that I can’t use those addis on something else of course, since I LOVE LOVE LOVE them.  So I am using my trusty dusty (not really dusty, it just rhymed) susan bates sock kit sock needles.  As much as I prefer wood or bamboo, I really have to say, these needles really work well with my fingers.  I’m using a size 1 and am happy.  I seem to use this size needle for most of my sockies.  Anyway, on to the picture.

So as you can see, I’m not very far on it, but that’s ok 🙂  It’ll happen.

Also, Holly and I are cohosting another washcloth swap and we want LOTS of people to come and sign up.  This one is called Winter Wonderland and is, of course, a winter theme.  Come on over, sign up, tell your friends, tell them to tell their friends, etc.  The more the merrier! 🙂  Don’t make me beg!!!

And finally, a Happy Halloween to you all!

Just a quick question…

I’m wondering, what are all of your favorite DPN’s, and why?  I’ve been toying around with a couple of different types since my bamboo mishap, and so far, I’m enjoying working with Brittany dpns, which are wood.  The metal I find too slippery, although I’m not against them.

Anyway, just wondered what everyone else’s prefs were, just for fun 🙂

On another note, I got new shoes today!  I’ve decided I really want to start running.  I found a girl from church who I eventually will run with, I just have to work my way up to where she is.  She’s running five or six days a week now, and I’m …. not.  I have started walking though, to work my way up to running.  My overall goal and reason for this?  I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to get rid of this extra flub draped around my body.  I am pleased that 2 weeks after I had Matthew I was nearly 20 pounds under my pre pregnancy weight, but I haven’t lost anymore, and that’s somewhat frustrating.  Then again, I haven’t been bustin’ my hump to lose anything either, which is also frustrating to myself.  So, being the soccer coach and running with the kids is REALLY helping, and I can feel it in my legs and my muscles that it is making a difference, and while I usually drive Jessie to school in the a.m.’s, I try to walk there and back to pick her up every afternoon after school, and that’s making a difference as well.  Not that it’s a huge walk, but hey, every little bit helps.  I can really feel it in my thighs too, the muscles are gettting to the point where I can actually feel them.  And my husband was behind me the other day and asked if I’ve lost more weight, when in fact, I’ve actually put on a couple of pounds, but I think it is muscle, because I haven’t started eating more all of the sudden.  That made me feel good, that he could notice that maybe my flub is toning away.  LOL.  Anyway, today I bought some new running shoes, since I just have cheapo tennis shoes.  I was trying to run and walk in these and it was just killing my feet and my ankles.  Not good.  That was really making me hurt.  A lot.  So I bought some Nike Air’s and now that I have spent a small fortune on these shoes, I am obligated to wear them into the ground or die trying.  Hopefully not the die trying part though, that would be a waste of good shoes ;).  These shoes are soooo comfy!  It’s not like walking on a cloud, because they don’t feel puffy or anything like that, but they do feel light on my feet, and they have good arch support, which I need, because during pregnancy #2 my arches started falling (which, let me tell you, HURTS LIKE FREAKING HECK).  Also, they are pink and purple, which are my favorite colors, so you know it was destiny that they be mine.  I love them 🙂  I also got a new skirt at Kohl’s for cheap off the clearance rack.  And 2 sweaters from Lane Bryant.  They were 29.99 and the girl that showed me where they were asked if I had my coupon.  I told her no, and she said to just tell the cashier that I forgot my coupon.  So I did, and it turned out to be 14.99 after using it.  So I asked if I could go grab another one real quick.  2 really great sweaters for 40 bucks, I was thrilled.  One is a mustard yellow, the other is like a deep burgandy.  They are knitted, have hoods, and light weight, which is great for me because I get hot so easily.  Love love love them!

Well, I hope you have a great night!

Just a titch late, but maybe not really?

Here are the answers to the mememememe for Socktoberfest 2006

  • When did you start making socks? Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class? I started about…a year and a half ago.  My friend Emily taught me how to use dpn’s and I went from there with a pattern.
  • What was your first pair?  How have they “held up” over time? The first pair I made were a Lion Brand pair from one of their magic stripes yarns, with the pattern from the ball band.  I assume they have held up well, I gifted them to my mother in law for her birthday.  She loves them, but usually only wears them at home for house socks since the yarn tends to make her foots (yep, FOOTS! *grin*) really hot.
  • What would you have done differently? Probably nothing.  I was quite satisfied with myself.
  • What yarns have you particularly enjoyed? LOVELOVELOVE Lorna’s Laces.  I also just used Opal for the first time and am really liking that.
  • Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method? I’ve tried to crochet them, but ick.  While I love to crochet, the crocheted socks I made were blech.  I have used 2 circs and Magic Loop but I prefer DPN’s.  I feel like I have more control, plus I think my finished product looks better on DPN’s.
  • Which kind of heel do you prefer?  (flap? or short-row?) Heel flap.  The only short row I’ve done was on a toe-up, and I’m not really fond of toe-ups.
  • How many pairs have you made? I think 7.  But I’ve frogged a lot of almost done socks too, because they just weren’t good enough for me.
  • What you’ve all been waiting for!

Ok, so maybe not ALL of you.  But hopefully at least one of you?  *grin*

I have some pictures to share!!!!!  None of knitting though.  I haven’t been taking any because … well, I just haven’t.  I’ve been mostly frogging a lot of things lately.  Ever since the awful sock incident, I haven’t had much of anything going on.  Even the baby pants I was crocheting?  Ick.  Taking those to the frog pond too.  Wait.  I do have a WIP pic I can share though!

And here are some of Matthew, who is GROWING like there is NO tomorrow!

    Mattsleep MattheweatingMattspoon

And last, and certainly LEAST, I would like to show you my fear.  Some may call me an awful person, showing no humanity.  To those people, I say nothing.  I don’t care what they think of me LOL.  I know what I’m scared of, and now I know how to get rid of it.

    Have a great day!

    Halloween fun

Hey there 🙂  My friend Colleen pointed me in the direction of a fun game and I thought I’d share.  Here is a fun Halloween game for you all!

And thanks to Mim for her advice on getting rid of my fear.  She gave me an idea on a good kind of trap to use, we got some, and have no eliminated 2 mouses.  (Yes mouses.)  TWO.  However, it wasn’t the one in the kitchen, this was by the back door, on the deck near the dog food.  *shudder*  They were cute little guys though, and I felt bad, but only for a split second.

Our soccer team is getting so much better.  I have some really great players on my team, and everyone has great team spirit.  Tonight we finally started scoring some goals!! WAY TO GO BROWNSVILLE BATS!  Oh yeah, we call ourselves the bats.  It was the only name that everyone could think of that we all liked.  And I think the only reason everyone liked it was because I associated it with Halloween LOL!

Well, that’s it for now.  No new knitting stuff, so good night 🙂

There is nothing to fear but fear itself….. YEAH RIGHT!  Along with spiders, burglars, murderers, rapists, monsters, and FREAKING MICE.  My mom lives in a house that has a field behind it.  Do you know what a house with a field behind it attracts?  FREAKING HECKING MICE!  I’m sitting here tonight crocheting some pants that I found a pattern for (yep, going back to the old crochet since my carpal tunnel is acting up… doesn’t seem to bother it as much, and I HAVE to continue with the yarn work of course!) … so anyway, I’m sitting here crocheting these pants and what do I see scamper into the kitchen?   A. FREAKING. HECKING. MOUSE. In my house.  IN THE KITCHEN.  I try to wake up Kenny, who fell asleep on the couch watching TV, but apparently sleep was more important than eliminating the mouse in the house.  I tried to call the dog in here, but he could care less unless I’m holding a t-bone or something, so he sauntered back off to the bedroom to go  back to sleep.  And I’m sitting here on the recliner, terrified to put it down for fear that there are more of those heinous little creatures around.  I keep trying to talk my mom’s husband into getting a cat.  He says no, that there are plenty of cats in the neighborhood (did I spell that right?  It looks funny) and that they will take care of the problem.  WELL GUESS WHAT MOM’S HUSBAND? THEY FREAKING HECKING ARE NOT TAKING CARE OF THE PROBLEM.  I have my mom worn down to getting a cat.  Now we just have to work on him.  I can’t stay here all night.  I’m getting tired.  And what about when I wake up?  How can I ever go in the kitchen again knowing there might be a mouse in there somewhere?  WHAT CAN I DO?  Mouse traps apparently have not worked in the past.  It’s getting colder.  I think that means more of the nasty little rodents in the house.  Where we live.  Where WE live.  NOT THEM.  US.  THEY WERE NOT INVITED.

So that’s my rant.  It’s terrible.  I know.  Mice.  Hecking mice.  And my friend Jeanette was no help.  She just LMAO’d at me.  *sigh*
