Blogging more

For as much as I am on the computer all day doing nothing, I really should post more.  But I always figure that my life is dull and boring, so who wants to read about it LOL.  However, I do think I shall work on a) making my life one more interesting to blog about and b) blogging about said life. 🙂

Jennifer graduated from pre school last Friday.  I was very proud, and I really got to adore her teachers.  They were an awesome group of women and I am glad to have gotten to know them.  I plan to go back next year sometimes to volunteer.  Do I call Jennifer a kindergartener now?  Or do we have to wait until she actually starts school?  How does that work?  You’d think that one would know, having gone through so many years of educational influence.  Jessica, my current kindergartener, is done with school this Thursday.  Then she becomes my first grader.  Also, I hope you’re as thrilled as I am that Jessica is reading at a THIRD GRADE LEVEL!  I am qutie proud of her, she has worked very hard this year, and has accomplished a lot.  To keep up on her reading, I told her I’d like her to try and read three books a day this summer, with weekends off.  Seeing as how the last few months of school she was reading three or four books for homework after school, and got it done in less than an hour, I don’t see how that’s a problem.  My mom told me it’s too much, that I should just do three books a week.  What do you think?  We live about 15 minutes walking distance from the library and I want to go there a couple of times a week, so that they learn to love the place as much as I do.

Speaking of the library, I finally got the opportunity to go to the one where we live.  We live in a very small town called Brownsville.  It’s very peaceful here, and as much as I love the big city life, I really do like it here too.  And the library is very … well, I want to say old school.  Remember in elementary school when you filled your name out on the little card in the back of the book?  And the librarian stamped the due date in the card holder?  That’s how we check out books here.  I rather like it.  Makes me feel nastolgic (did I spell that right?).  And if it’s a paperback book (or a baby/toddler board book) it’s totally on the trust system.  You’re checking out 2 paperbacks?  Just write your name down in the notebook with “2 pb” next to your name.  And they are getting ready to update the children’s books (fiction) to the dewey decimal system.  And instead of using the computer to locate where a book might be,  you need to go to the card cataloge, and thumb through the cards to find it.  I LOVE IT!  It reminds me of when I was younger, and sometimes I miss those days 🙂

I would like to share my proud moment with you.  I made up my very own pattern for something I have never knit (knitted?) before.  A skirt.  It started out as a tank top that I thought would be cute for one of the girls, but I just wasn’t liking the way it was turning out and thought “Hey, this would be an awesome skirt!”  So I plodded along, and before I knew it, a skirt was born.  It’s a teench tight for Jennifer, so I might send it to my niece.  When Kenny returns from work in the morning (he works graveyards now, but is on his 2nd promotion since he started in November!!!) maybe I’ll remember to take a picture of it.  I just need to weave in the ends, the rest is done, even the i-cord tie for the waste 🙂  And I casted on for another one, this one a little bit bigger, but in the same cheapo acrylic yarn (using up the stash).  I figure that washable is very important, so I don’t mind using this yarn.  If I get the ends weaved in tonight, Niff gets to wear it tomorrow, and you’ll hopefully see pictures.

I’m working on walking a lot still.  Last week I walked almost four miles over 2 days.  I was quite proud of myself, and look forward to more walking.  The first day, I wore my Keds, which I shall never wear to walk again.  I didn’t wear my good walking shoes (Nike) because one was in one place, one was in another place, and apparently putting the two together was just too much work for my lazy behinded body LOL.  So I donned some socks on the foots, and threw the Keds on thinking I’d be ok.  Wrong.  HUGE blisters on the back of both feet.  One of the blisters even popped while I was still walking, and started to form another blister within that blister, if that makes sense.  It drained on it’s own for several days, then started to drain blood, which shocked me.  I’ve never had a blister do that!  But after several interactions with neosporin, it’s doing much better and itching a lot less.  The other blister on the other foot just kept getting bigger and bigger, so I had to release some of that fluid build up and drain it, and now it’s gone.  Sorry if that was TMI for anyone, just thought I’d share my gore for the month 🙂  Anyway, we’ll be doing a lot of walking this summer.  The park is nearby, where we can play on the toys, knit, read, knit, play in the river, and knit.  Oh, and knit of course 🙂  And the library, as I mentioned.  And friends houses hopefully too!  We plan to do lots of walking this summer.  Anywhere to go in town, if it’s not raining, we’ll be walking.  Mostly because I want to get in good shape, but also because gas is just way too freaking outrageous.  Also, I still want to get in better shape on my bike.  I’ve only been able to go on one short ride 😦  I can’t wait until I can be as great on the bike as Isela and ride for 78 miles for an awesome cause.  Or even just for any cause I guess too 🙂  Right now, though, my goal is riding without killing myself or something.  Plus I have this fear of people seeing me riding my bike and saying “Wow, how do those tires not explode?”  I worry too much about what other people think.  I know, just don’t worry about it, but I can’t not.

Well, that’s about it.  Hopefully I’ll get my patootie in gear and write more.  And possibly post pics of what I write about 🙂

OH!  I forgot my Matthew update!!!  He’s a year old now.  Turned 1 in April.  I was sad, as it’s that whole “last of the firsts” still.  He’s got 8 teeth, can walk all over, nearly ready to break out in a run.  Sometimes he even sleeps through the night!  He can say mama, bite (but it sounds more like bye) and Jessie (detchie) and is continuing to learn like there’s no tomorrow.  He also had his first ear infection 2 weeks ago.  Actually, ear infectionS.  One in each ear.  This was the first time I’ve had to deal with an ear infection since I became a mom.  Somehow my girls managed to escape that infliction.  Hopefully Matthew doesn’t become one of those poor kids who gets them all the time and has to get tubes and what not.  I feel so sorry for those kids 😦

So that’s it now.  Hope you all have a great week 🙂  And I hope someone still reads this blog!!!!
